Here's why Ariana Grande has been added to Aretha Franklin's funeral.

Aretha Franklin passed away at 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2018.  The "Queen of Soul" was 76-years-old.

Pop star Ariana Grande showed up that night on "The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon" with an emotional tribute to Ms. Franklin. Because of her outstanding performance -- that you can watch below -- Aretha's family has asked her to perform at Friday morning's funeral.

Grande joins Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill, Jennifer Hudson and more who will fill the Greater Grace Temple Church in Detroit with musical tributes.

Aretha Franklin began as a gospel singer at a church in Detroit where her father C.L. was a minister.  Apparently the Good Lord had a mission for her, as she grew up to chart 112 singles on Billboard, including 17 top ten songs and 20 number ones on the R&B chart.

Named as one of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and on the list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time by Rolling Stone, Aretha Franklin was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.  Of course she was a trend setter, as she was the first female artist to be invited to join the Hall.

Friday's service begins at 10 a.m.  Here's Ariana Grande's performance which brought her to church Friday in tribute.

R.I.P. Queen of Soul.
