Sperry's New Shoe Collection Is Made From Ocean Plastic

The fashion world is pitching in to help fight the growing ocean plastic problem and now Sperry is stepping in to help with a new shoe line. The Sperry x BIONIC sustainable collection is made by turning plastic floating in the ocean into shoes, but you’d never know it by looking at them.

This collaboration is part of the boat shoe brand’s new sustainability platform, “Look Good, Do Good” and it includes footwear for men, women, and kids that are made from BIONIC material, which is created with plastic bags, straws, and such that’s cleaned up and reused. So you can help protect marine life and reefs by adding these kicks to your shoe collection.

The sustainable shoe line will include some of Sperry’s most popular styles, including the Authentic Original boat shoe, the Captain’s CVO, and the women’s Crest Vibe sneaker. The shoes will also be a link to Sperry’s sailing roots by featuring the style and material of sailboat sails and details like patchwork pieces and stitching. Even the shoe boxes these come in are eco-friendly, they’re made from 100% recycled paper and printed with vegetable ink. The BIONIC collection is available now at Sperry.com as well as retailers including Nordstrom and Macy’s.
