Use Alexa To Help You Donate a Backpack to a Kid In Need

It’s back-to-school season and this month, Shaquille O’Neal, Amazon, and Alexa are making it easier to donate backpacks filled with school supplies to kids who need them. If you use Amazon’s virtual assistant at home, you can say: “Alexa, donate to Happy School Year” to get started.

Once you say that phrase, you’ll be asked to confirm your donation of a backpack up to $25 and Amazon will send it to Communities in Schools (CIS), a nonprofit organization that supports at-risk students. The company will also match the first $200,000 in backpack donations by filling the bags with school supplies kids need, like pencils and notebooks.

Shaq is a member of CIS’s national board of directors and his partnerships with Amazon and Zappos for Good through his “Shaq-to-School” programs are expected to help 5,000 students get new backpacks and supplies for school. The program is open now through September 9th, so there’s plenty of time to get involved.
