Carrie Underwood Honors Trailblazing Women Of Country Music At ACM Awards

After a months-long delay as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards finally aired on Wednesday (September 16.) Unsurprisingly, country music's biggest awards show looked pretty different this year. Not only were performances spread out across multiple venues, including the Bluebird Cafe, Ryman Auditorium and Grand Ole Opry House, the artists were also without an audience.

Even without an audience, Carrie Underwood still managed to bring down the (virtual) house with her moving tribute to the women of country music. Underwood took the stage at Grand Ole Opry to honor the trailblazing artists Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Martina McBride, Barbara Mandrell, Reba McEntire and Patsy Cline.

Not only did she pay tribute to these country music icons, Underwood also celebrated the Grand Ole Opry's 95th anniversary. "They are some of my heroes, and I'm so honored to stand alongside them as a member of the Grand Ole Opry," the American Idol alum said.

Underwood sang a medley of the powerhouse artists' biggest hits, starting off with Cline's famed rendition of "Crazy," followed by Lynn's "You Ain't Woman Enough," Mandrell's "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool," Parton's "Why'd You Come in Here," McEntire's "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" and McBride's "A Broken Wing."  Needless to say, it was a worthy tribute to the women who came before her.

This wasn't the only medley Underwood performed on Wednesday evening, either. She took part in the show's opening number, as well, singing a snippet of her hit song 'Before He Cheats,' which had fans on social media excited about the throwback.
