Billy Bob Thornton recently shared insights into his relationship with ex-wife Angelina Jolie, 22 years after their divorce.
The former couple, who were married from 2000 to 2003, have actually maintained a close friendship. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Thornton described their time together as "one of the greatest times of my life," and emphasized that they remain "very, very close friends" despite their split.
The actor explained that their breakup was amicable, stemming from differing lifestyles. Thornton, who is now 70, noted that the intense media attention during their marriage was challenging. He recalled how their relationship was often sensationalized, particularly the story about them wearing vials of each other's blood. Thornton clarified that they each wore a locket with a small drop of blood, describing it as a romantic gesture rather than the exaggerated tales that circulated.
Thornton also reflected on why their marriage ended, citing their different paths in life. He mentioned that while Jolie led a global lifestyle, he preferred a more private, agoraphobic life. Despite their differences, both have spoken fondly of each other over the years. Jolie once expressed her continued affection for Thornton, stating, "I still love him dearly and think the world of him."
Thornton has been married six times and is currently with Connie Angland, with whom he shares a daughter. Meanwhile, Jolie went on to marry Brad Pitt, with whom she has six children. Both have moved on but continue to hold mutual respect and affection for one another.
