Has anyone made fun of you because you talk to your pets? I've been busted waving to our neighbor's dogs in their yard when I leave for work in the morning. Some people think it's just silly because animals don't exactly understand most verbal language.
However, according to University of Chicago, talking to our dogs for instance is a totally normal behavior. It also indicates a higher level of social smarts and intelligence.
When we assign human characteristics, thoughts and emotions to objects or non-human creatures, it's called anthropomorphism. A lot of kids do this which helps them grow their social and interactive skills.
When we talk to our pets it makes us connect with them and interact at a more meaningful level and that's a good thing!
